TxDOT contracted SLA to design a new Area Engineering and Maintenance Facility and supporting site structures in order to replace the existing facility with new, more adaptable structures for current and future needs. The project will provide a cohesive nature of space versus what is currently either unusable or just outdated and nonfunctional. District management is cognizant of the weather patterns in the area and the primary function of the new facility is to be able to provide a safe and secure environment during inclement weather.
A single, multi-functional building is designed to house the Administration, Laboratory, and Shop requirements, ensuring internal access for all-weather functionality. New site structures include salt storage/brine maker building, containment structure for brine tanks, asphalt tank pad including containment area, vehicle storage sheds, an equipment shed, and a fueling station. Site improvements include grading, service utilities, full site generator, approaches, visitor and staff parking lots, security fencing, lighting, and landscaping.
