Fort Meade, Maryland
The goal of this project was to provide an installation access control point to allow safe and convenient vehicular and pedestrian access to Fort Meade. The project complies with the Army Standard for Access Control Points and the Department of Army Access Control Points Standard Design (ACP-SD) for a Primary Access Control Point and included installation of passive vehicle barriers and active vehicle barriers incorporated into the design. The project included physical security, ATFP measures including fixed and operable barriers, and ballistic resistance of select elements. A realignment of Mapes Road was required including a horseshoe for the approach zone and access control zone to reduce the speed of approaching vehicles and allow for observation of the ACP from the combined search and gatehouse facility as well as the over-watch position near the final denial barrier. SLA designed the 1,718sf combination Gatehouse / Search Office which includes Command and Control, Storage, and a Small Search Area.
