Five Phases: Renovate Volunteer Army Barracks and Central Energy Plants

More coming soon.

Fort Cavazos, Texas

SLA Architects has completed the design on five separate phases of the Renovation of VOLAR (Volunteer Army) Barracks.  Each of these projects were completed using the Design/Build project delivery method with Guyco, Inc. serving as the general contractor. These five projects alone encompassed thirty-five barracks buildings over four blocks totaling 1.5M gross square feet. Each phase involved extensive upgrades, including replacing Central Energy Plants, renovating laundry facilities, and conducting miscellaneous site work like utility upgrades and landscaping. Notably, all phases achieved LEED Silver certification. These renovations aimed to provide 2,762 soldiers with durable and comfortable living quarters for the next thirty years. Architecturally, the project focused on enhancing both interior and exterior shells of the barracks, ensuring resilience and adaptability. Each space was designed to double its capacity to accommodate a surge, effectively providing a surge capacity of 5,524 soldiers.
