Fort Cavazos, Texas
SLA designed the complete interior and exterior renovations to the Hammerhead Barracks at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) all through the Design/Build project delivery method. These phases total 366,000sf across eight barracks on the 9400 Block including a Central Energy Plant. The purpose of these renovations is to improve energy efficiency and provide a better living environment for the soldiers that will last for many years to come. In selective demolition of the barracks, all interior spaces were gutted in the structure except at the COF areas which received patch and repair. The new barracks design is an efficient modular layout within the footprint of the existing building structure and consists of dwelling units designed for dual occupancy with a central entry/circulation/dining area and two bedrooms each with an adjacent walk-in closet. The design provides a more efficient HVAC system and fire protection system as well as site grading / drainage upgrades, replacement of sidewalks, parking lot striping, dumpster pads, dumpster enclosures, lighting, and landscaping.
